ISO
50001 Energy Management System Services
ERM has been
helping clients to see the value of designing, implementing, and
continuously improving the systematic
way they manage energy since 1992.
The release of an ISO standard to describe and regularise that process
in June 2011 marks a turning point in the way in which companies manage
their use of energy.
From
now on, formally documenting
energy-management procedures, opportunities, projects, roles and
responsibilities, and every other aspect of energy purchase,
conversion, use, and value extraction is going to be a minimum.
Ad hoc, project by project, and "we just pay for what we use,
don't we?" is going to be patently inadequate.
ERM
provides clients with a clear path to energy management excellence by
implementing an appropriate system for managing energy, in other works,
an
energy management system, abbreviated as EnMS.
But what about certification and the
expense that entails?
Happily there is a self-certification
route: the
standard
itself states that it can be used as the basis of self-declaration
of conformity.
Self-declaration
is a very much
cheaper option, and brings most of the benefits in terms of ensuring a
robust and
visible energy-management programme with continuity through changes of
personnel, and with the explicit backing of top management.
Since few assessors here in Asia are sufficiently
qualified to
judge an energy management programme in detail, there is even more
reason for considering self-certification.
